What is SCUF and what will
membership involve?

SCUF is an independent local Forum run by people who have accessed mental health care in Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire.  It is managed by Lifecraft (a self-help, user-led voluntary organisation in Cambridge) and funded by Comic Relief and Cambridge City Council.  Its mission is to support those who have accessed help for mental health problems, enabling them to share their views and experiences to build a collective User Voice that aims to bring about positive change.

As a member you will automatically receive monthly updates on relevant meetings, events and issues.  There are also opportunities to become more actively involved, however the level of involvement you have will be entirely up to you.

Opportunities you might be interested are:

    • Sharing and learning from experiences or receiving mental health care.
    • Attending monthly SCUF meetings.
    • Getting involved in work to enable SCUF to have a say about mental health services.
    • Occasional social events.

How are members supported?

SCUF pays transport costs incurred by members for their travel to and from SCUF meetings. The SCUF Facilitator also helps to organise transport to and from outside meetings/events and can assist members with any claims for payment for this involvement. SCUF will also do its best to ensure that members receive the support and training they need to enable their involvement. Furthermore, members who become actively involved will have the opportunity to meet with like-minded people and make use of the peer support and friendship that can comes from this.
